University takes on city in Olympic inspired competion
Some of our most talented athletes are preparing to take on clubs from across the city in a series of friendly matches this April.
The 2012 Town and Gown event is the first senior multi-sports event of its type to be held in Nottingham and will form part of the Five Ring Legacy Games that the University are hosting in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.
With a total of 13 sports taking place, Assistant Director of Sport at the University, Nigel Mayglothling explained: “Multi-sport Games offer outstanding opportunities for athletes to get a small taste of what the Olympic experience is like, but at a local level.
“Our Town and Gown event will also offer our University teams the chance to engage with local community teams on a wider basis.”
The winners of each sport will be awarded one point in a ‘Ryder Cup’ style format, which will combine to decide whether Town or Gown become the Inaugural Champions.
