New web resources supporting researchers undertaking systematic reviews
The Libraries Research Support team have produced new guidance and support for researchers at the University of Nottingham taking on the task of a Systematic Review. The web resources take researchers through the process of ‘Conducting a Search’, one of the key aspects of a Systematic Review.
A systematic review aims to be a comprehensive summary of current evidence related to a particular research question
Students and researchers undertaking systematic reviews will know how lengthy the process is, when producing a quality piece of work. For those who need a reminder of all the steps involved, a summary of all tasks is available in the School of Health Sciences ‘Steps in conducting a systematic review‘.
Conducting a search
The Libraries Research Support Team have stepped in to help anyone about to embark on a systematic review, focusing on one of the key aspects ‘Conducting a search’. We’ve produced a new suite of web pages dedicated to supporting searching for Systematic Reviews, which take a step by step approach:
- preparing to search
- searching databases
- managing the search process.
We also cover where to go to identify existing systematic reviews or protocols, and have put together a list of training links and other resource material.
Training and help available
The Libraries Research Support Team also deliver training for Post Graduate Researchers and staff on Systematic Review: literature searching (MHS Faculty) (next date to be confirmed). We are able to provide feedback on search strategies and databases to search for postgraduate researchers and staff.
Academics working with undergraduates in this area may be interested in the Libraries Teaching and Learning Team’s Suite of Information Skills Interventions for Taught Course Students in 2018-19 which includes relevant literature searching skills. Contact Libraries Teaching and Learning Team to discuss training needs.
Taught postgraduates undertaking systematic reviews can sign up to ‘On Course for Your Masters‘ on Moodle which contains a tutorial on systematic review alongside general guidance on literature searching.
If you have a query about searching for systematic reviews, or would like to give feedback on the web pages, please contact the Libraries Research Support Team.
