Welcome Programme 2016
By Camila Gottlieb, a Chevening Scholar from Uruguay.
Last Thursday and Friday were the Welcome Programme at the University. I arrived to Nottingham on the 5th of September so I was really looking forward to these days where I could see the University starting to become a real thing.
I woke up very early on Thursday, anxious and little nervous, I hadn’t remember feeling this way from school, more than 14 years ago. I was accompanied by my new flat mate from Mexico, Neto, and both of us did everything together on these two days.
Welcome Programme was a fantastic experience, students everywhere, music, and great atmosphere. On the first day, I focused on the most important things to do: pick up my student card (that would definitely express I’m a student from this University), open the bank account and register at NHS. Once we completed this steps, we start joining the rest of the activities that were prepared for students. Apart from settling all the papers, on Thursday I got the chance to meet other Chevening scholars! People from all around the world that were selected as me to become part of the Chevening Scholarships were also part of this days. After we meet, we decide to keep on the rest of the day together sharing dinner and to end this great day we all want to the concert of the Mexican Society.
On Friday we could finally register to our master courses, and the rest of the day was all about the British party tea, getting information about volunteering, playing games.
It was definitely the great beginning of a new phase, where I get to know many people from all over the world, new students like me, current students that were so helpful, and people that works at the university. I can’t wait for the induction week to begin to discover new challenges and make The University of Nottingham my home.
There’s plenty more going on for new students this week.
