The best places to visit in Europe: Hazel, John and Colbie’s picks
With its convenient location and easy transport links, studying in the UK is a great way to explore the beauty that Europe has to offer. Three of our international students pick their favourite places and share their best holiday snaps.
John, USA, MA Art History:
Paris, France
“I’ve been to Paris twice now, and it remains one of my absolute favourite cities. It’s so beautiful, there’s so much to see and do, and there’s an amazing bakery on nearly every corner. What’s not to love?”
Berlin, Germany
“Berlin was never at the top of my list of places to visit, but I was blown away by it! There’s a really great variety of culture to be absorbed there, and the people are so friendly; I can’t wait to go back.”
Hazel, Malaysia, LLB Law:
Florence, Italy
“This small town stole my heart when I first visited it in the winter of 2013, and it has since then occupied an important corner of my memory. Despite being small, it has a lot to offer: from the amazing sunset view from Piazzale Michelangelo (the photo above cannot do it justice, you must see it with your own eyes!) to the numerous art galleries which features world-class art, from the delicious Tuscan food (truffles and wine!) to the famous Pisa Leaning Tower located an hour away from the city. Last but not least, you shouldn’t miss the Florence Cathedral known for its Renaissance dome, and Ponte Vecchio, a medieval arch bridge lined with small (and expensive for students like us) jewellery shops.”
Colbie, China, International Communication Studies:
Barcelona, Spain
“This is a city filled with all your fantasies of life. It is a lovely, crazy city with outstanding architecture from Antoni Gaudi.”
Prague, Czech Republic
“It is a city out of a fairy tale. If you are on the top of the town hall when the sun is going down, you will know that’s a memory that you could not wipe away in your life.”
