Malham Mayhem!
80 members of the School of Geography have been at the Field Studies Council field center at Malham Tarn since Friday of last week immersed in all weathers and multiple strands of physical geography.
This 8 day trip is the key part of the second year Techniques in Physical Geography module – training students in the techniques they need to undertake independent research for their dissertation and beyond…

Students (and staff) have found themselves, literally, in rivers, lakes, grykes and soil pits as well as learning how to survey vegetation and changes in topography.

It’s been a great week, highlighted by the tweets (http://malhammayhem.tweetwally.com/) and photos (thanks to Adam Algar), despite some fun weather (which has been calm compared to the last two years!).
It only happens when it rains…
Tomorrow sees the students pitch their dissertation ideas to the Geography Dragons (with the reptilian reference getting Dr Algar particularly excited!).

It’s always good to be practically motivated like this (rather than motivated from theory). It just makes it so much easier to think and plan! I wish you all the luck with your dissertations!
