Development of an Online Education Tool for Oncology
Targeting of radiotherapy by doctors has been identified as a significant factor in the quality radiotherapy, affecting cancer cure rates.
Simon Duke, as part of a doctoral research project funded by Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (Cambridge), has been collaborating with Nottingham University and the EMBRACE-II cervix cancer trial group to investigate innovative ways of improving how doctors learn to target radiotherapy.
A complex online radiotherapy simulation was created for this purpose. However, Simon and his colleagues quickly discovered issues with engagement with the training exercises, and so set about designing something innovative in partnership with academics and learning technologists in the HELM team. The results so far have been very positive, with the new learning exercises taking significantly less time and receiving very positive feedback.
