Who are The University of Nottingham’s Greatest Sporting Heroes?

Sport – love it or loathe it – it’s hard not to be impressed by the remarkable performances of teams and athletes. Their feats of endurance, rigid discipline and unswerving focus – always putting training above a night out and hearty meal!

At The University of Nottingham, glittering sports stars abound among our students and alumni – people who we feel deserve recognising and celebrating.

But we need your help. As we cheer the announcement of an exciting new sports centre being planned at University Park – the David Ross Sports Village – we also want to hear your nominations for who you think the University’s Greatest Sporting Heroes are.

Whether your hero is an Olympic medal winning star or an unsung stalwart who always goes the extra mile, putting people forward is the only way you can make sure your sports legends aren’t left out of the running. The winners (decided by a public vote) will be forever celebrated in a ‘Hall of Fame’ being planned at the new sports centre.

How does it work?

There are four categories to choose from: Greatest Sportsman, Woman, Team and Coach.

Maybe Brian Moore, England and British Lions rugby union hooker, is your pick for greatest sportsman? Perhaps you think current student and Commonwealth silver medal winning high jumper Isobel Pooley is the greatest sportswoman the University has produced?

Were you part of a sports team while at University that deserves to be recognised among the champions, or may you feel John Sheridan – the coach of the men’s football team for many years – has earned the title of our greatest coach?

The University has such a rich history of sporting success – please help us make sure all our sporting heroes both well-known and less-known, aren’t forgotten.

What do I need to do?

It’s really easy to get involved. All you need to do is visit our Greatest Sporting Heroes webpage and fill in a nomination form. You can nominate as many times as you like, although you can only nominate an individual person or team once.

Nominations are open until 14 November 2014. Our expert panel will then decide on a shortlist of candidates. From 1-16 December 2014 you’ll be able to vote for your favourites to help decide who will be crowned The University of Nottingham’s Greatest Sporting Heroes.
