May Fest 2014 – Our most popular alumni event
Last Saturday saw the annual May Fest celebrations take place across the University Park campus. With a jam packed programme of events there was surely something for everyone. The event is an opportunity for the University to open its doors to the local community and alumni, to showcase what we do and promote higher education.
As part of the celebrations, alumni were invited to an exclusive BBQ, which in true British style took place despite the inclement weather conditions. We were fortunate though as the heaviest of the rain showers held off and some alumni and their families were able to enjoy lunch in the garden. Thankfully the Hemsley, which was reserved exclusively for alumni for the day, was fully equipped in-doors with big slouchy leather sofas and a bar serving hot and cold drinks.
As the sun made its appearance families enjoyed garden games on the lawn and the tastiest ice cream provided by Newlyns Ice Cream Tricycles. With amazing flavours from Caramel and Honeycomb, Strawberries and Cream and Elderflower and Gooseberry, they were too tempting to miss and thanks to a subsidy from the Alumni Relations department they were a bargain at only £1 each!
Our aim was to create to a relaxing space for all the family to take some time out from the hustle and bustle of May Fest, and judging by the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received I think we just about managed it. Look out for the exclusive alumni offer next year, when it will be even bigger and better, considering I can’t predict the weather though a marquee on the lawn might be the first thing on my list to order!
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success, I look forward to seeing you again at future alumni events, don’t forget to keep an eye out on our calendar of events and be the first to hear about which events we have taking place in your area or on campus.
