Alumni in the Big Apple

Written by Hannah Curnock, International Alumni Manager – Europe and the Americas

Last week, on Monday 18th November, more than 30 alumni from across the New York area gathered in the Bookmarks Rooftop Lounge at the top of the Library Hotel on Madison Avenue for after-work drinks and nibbles.  As well as enjoying great cityscape views from the outdoor terrace, conversation flowed between alumni of all ages and the buzz in the room confirmed there is a real cohort of UoN alumni coming together on the East Coast.  Conversations veered from the latest Uni news to jumping in the Lake and historic bar crawls, to business networks, mutual acquaintances and meeting up again.

The evening was hosted by Elspeth Gilfillan, Director of Philanthropy, who gave a short talk on “all things Nottingham” and who has been regularly visiting the States for the last 3 years bringing together groups of alumni across the country..  .  Our alumni hosts included Yinka Sho, our alumni ambassador for New York, and members of the FUN America Board who were there  to let people know how to keep in touch with the University through the Alumni and FUN America websites and dedicated LinkedIn and Facebook pages, all of which are regularly updated by Yinka with news of events and opportunities.  A big thank you to Yinka for all her posts and updates, to Steve Utley for finding the venue and to Adrian Dawes for his encouragement of all to get more involved with the University and  helping put on what was a really enjoyable evening!

If you couldn’t join us on this occasion, keep an eye out on the above media for upcoming events (the next one in March 2014).
