Working or volunteering this summer? Get it accredited!

Do have a part-time job, vacation job or volunteering position for this summer? If so, why not get it accredited and join more than 2,500 students who are already taking part in the Nottingham Advantage Award?

Our popular Part-time Jobs, Vacation Jobs and Volunteering module runs over the summer holiday period and consists of two workshops and one assessment session. To be eligible to get accredited, you need to complete 40 hours of summer work or volunteering by the date of your module assessment session.

This module is so flexible that even if you haven’t secured work experience for this summer, you can refer to work or volunteering that you did up to six months before the module start date. Alternatively, you can visit Unitemps, our very own university temping agency, to find out whether they have any vacancies for this summer.

Your part-time job, vacation job or volunteering will take up most of hours needed to pass the module, but you will also need to do some extra work on Moodle. By undertaking a series of tasks – like writing a CV and completing an action plan – this module will help you to realise your goals and map out your future career path.

There is help along the way, as the module encourages you to seek advice from the Careers and Employability Service. By booking an appointment with the Careers team, you can learn how to write CVs that stand out from the crowd and fill out application forms which really showcase your skills!

Lucie Whitfield, the module convenor, has noticed how students who take the module gain a much deeper understanding of the skills that employers look for in graduates. She said, “this module gives you the opportunity to reflect on your experience and boost your employability by learning how to demonstrate your acquired skills and attributes to employers.”

If you would like to sign up for the Part-time Jobs, Vacation Jobs and Volunteering module, you can choose to join one of three groups. The dates and application deadlines vary from group to group, so please check Workspace to find out which is the right group for you.
