To Frack or not to Frack?

Since March 2012, academics from the Schools of Geography, Politics and International Relations and Sociology and Social Policy have been running surveys of public attitudes to shale gas extraction in the UK. The survey has tracked changes in awareness of shale gas, views on the environmental impacts of its extraction and use, as well as its acceptability as an energy source.

In June 2014, the team will be widening their enquiries to a global audience by inviting learners on Nottingham’s free online course, ‘Sustainability, Society and You’ to participate in a section of the survey too.  They will be exploring whether or not we associate fracking with energy benefits or environmental problems and if we feel that fracking companies should be required to pay compensation to surrounding communities.  If you would like to get involved in the debate and submit your views to the survey, join us on ‘Sustainability, Society and You’ starting June 16th.
