Teaching and Learning Review

The use of School Review to evaluate all of a school’s activities on a periodic basis is being discontinued from this session, as many of the elements of this methodology are contained within the recently implemented Academic and Financial Strategy Framework (AFSF). As a result, a new system of Teaching and Learning Review is being introduced with effect from January 2014.

Schools have recently been consulted on the proposed methodology and their comments will be considered by Teaching and Learning Board in October 2013. Proposals include: provision of reports by the school for each of its taught programmes, availability of data for the panel including data from the National Student Survey and Key Information Set, student numbers and applications information, and the introduction of a student submission covering response of the school to student feedback, quality of information provided to students and the extent to which students have been involved in decision making in the school. Full information about the new methodology will be available from early November.

A call has also been circulated for expressions of interest in serving on a review panel, and also for colleagues who would like to take on the role of Review Secretary.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education is currently consulting on a revised chapter for the Quality Code dealing with periodic course review and this will be published by the end of October 2013, and the University’s process may require some amendments to be made when the new chapter is available.
