Summer Spirit

No matter how you tend to spend those hot summer months, staying at home and away from other people is probably not your idea of a fun summer. For me, summer is for travelling, visiting family abroad, exploring new cities… so I’m definitely not feeling very summery this year.

Then again, if I feel this way, a lot of other people probably do too! So here are some ways to make the most of your summer in quarantine.

Have some ice cream

If you associate summer with ice cream, get some fun ice cream! You can try to make your own or buy a bunch of flavours and make sundaes. Maybe even do a tour around your town’s ice cream spots – safely and with a covered face, of course!

Be a tourist

If travelling is a big part of your summer hols, why not be a tourist in your own city? Maybe you can even explore a nearby town if you have the means to drive or take a bus there. Being a tourist isn’t just about where you are, it’s a state of mind – you can pretend you’re on holiday even on a local walk!

Glamping?

If you had camping plans this summer, (I know it’s not the same, but…) why not set up a tent in your back garden? If you don’t have one, why not your living room? Sleeping in a tent is an experience in itself! You can even put on a nature documentary or nature sounds to add to the illusion of being in the wild.

Learn how to make cocktails

Cocktails in the sun? I’d say that’s when I feel the most summery. Even if you don’t have a pool, throw on a swimsuit, lay on the grass and have a cocktail with your fave summer playlist playing! Not to mention, you’ll be a hit when you get back to uni – everyone loves a homemade cocktail! I don’t see any downsides.

Summer is not the things you do, but the feeling you have! Think about the things you associate with summer and try to find ways to do them within the current restrictions. Summer 2020 doesn’t have to be wasted… we just need to get creative!

Happy Summer!
