Final Year: Expectations vs Reality
As it is the last week of term, I thought I would do a wrap up on how this semester has gone by looking back on a few of my expectations. These are some of the expectations I had, either from first year or from the summer before I began my final year at university.
University Life
Expectation: I would be a pro by now at waking up for my 9 am lectures, bracing the rain and walking to university without running on caffeine.
Reality: I have taken the 34 or hopper more times this semester than I have the whole of last year. My sleep habits are also at at all time low with my average bedtime being around 3am and average coffee consumption at about 1.5 cups a day (up from my usual dose of 0 cups).
Course
Expectation: That I wouldn’t make it as far as final year. Clearly did not expect much of myself there!
Reality: Stil here, alive and kicking. Although I am not enjoying being buried under a tonne of work, I am enjoying components of the course (i.e the pharmacy games) and can quite happily say I see myself having a future in the world of pharmacy. Take that first year me!
Friendships
Expectation: Getting to spend more time with friends as it is final year.
Reality: Friends? What friends? There is no time for friends!
Christmas
Expectation: Another Christmas spent away from family.
Reality: I’m going home for Christmas, I haven’t done this since I was a fresher so I am way too excited. The end of term cannot come fast enough!
Hope you all have a smooth sailing week and if you also have deadlines to get through I wish you the best of luck!
