Research staff — sign up for your development conference

Have you signed up for the Research Staff Development Conference yet? Learn more about the event in this guest post from our friends in the Graduate School…

New Year, new you? The annual Research Staff Development Conference is an opportunity for research staff at the University to take a day out to focus on their own personal and professional development.

Date: 18 March 2015 Location: National Centre for Teaching and Leadership, Jubilee Campus

Professor Karen Cox, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will welcome delegates and introduce the day. She will focus on the impact of wider institutional strategies, including Strategy 2020 and Project Transform, and their relevance to the researcher community. Julia Yates a senior lecturer in Psychology at UEL and author of The Career Coaching Handbook, will provide the Plenary ‘Career Development Decisions: rationality and the unconscious’ based on her research into career decision making, career image and pedagogical approaches.

There will be plenty of opportunity for networking at sessions delivered by the ever popular Vox Coaching. Who will facilitate a pre-lunch session on networking within the research context. A panel session of six 10-minute talks followed by a Q&A will hopefully stimulate discussion. A wide range of topics important to research staff will be covered including REF, Open Access and Research Integrity culminating in insights from promotional panels from Professor Sara O’Hara. In the afternoon there is an opportunity for longer in depth workshops. Workshop topics range from securing funding, managing research data properly to career progression outside of academia.
