2012 Video highlights
In the year that saw the University’s YouTube EDU channel hit 1 million views, we thought it was a good idea to showcase some of our video highlights from the last 12 months.
Viral videos
One of our biggest viral YouTube hits was the Vortex Cannon, produced by students involved in URN, the University’s award-winning student-run radio station. It was picked up by American cable TV channels and has now clocked up over 900,000 views on YouTube.
Reaching an even bigger audience with over 2 million views was a unique addition to the Periodic Videos series with chemistry professor Martyn Poliakoff in a vault full of gold bullion.
Gangnam Style
Love it or loathe it, there was no escaping the ubiquitous Gangnam Style, with this version produced by students from URN here in the UK with freshers from our University Park halls of residence showing varying levels of enthusiasm.
Students in Ningbo also did their take on Gangnam style, published on Youku, the Chinese version of YouTube: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDU5Mzg1OTI0.html.
Elephants, hydrogen fuel and baby food
Meanwhile at our Malaysia Campus, jungle elephants being tracked by UNMC academics were captured on camera realising that they were being filmed.
Back in the UK, we caught up with motoring expert Quentin Willson as he made a pit stop to refuel his hydrogen car using our new hydrogen refueller, the first in Nottingham.
Also in the world of research, Nottingham researchers published a study showing that baby-led weaning promoted healthy food preferences:
And theologian Dr Alison Milbank gave us some valuable insights into The Hobbit and JRR Tolkien.
Beautiful campuses and an award-winning farmers’ market
Our main University Park campus was used as the setting of a Hindi-language Bollywood movie called Teri Meri Kahani (Our Story) released this year.
We also celebrated the award-winning student-run farmers’ market at Sutton Bonington with this film:
And published new video campus tours with some impressive aerial shots, including this one of Jubilee Campus.
As you can see it’s been a varied and interesting year here at Nottingham. Let us know what your highlights were on Twitter using #notts2012 and then see the results at http://twubs.com/notts2012.
Hate to nit-pick but the Gangnam Style video was also URN…
Apologies, will amend and give URN due credit. Nice work though guys – two great videos amongst many others this year!
Excellent set of videos.
I just wanted to say that this is great set of videos. It’s is hard to find interesting concepts based out of Nottingham and you guy’s do a great job at showcasing them. I will be looking forward to coming back and watching some more. PS: Happy New Year and have a great 2013.
