Spring into Science 2019: thunderbolts and lightning for Year 8 students

One of the highlights of our Outreach programme is the now annual “Spring into Science” show: an interactive demonstration of light and sound designed for Year 8 students in the Nottingham area.

Prof Philip Moriarty presents the show, with the support of Prof Ed Copeland and his outreach team and our wonderful technical support staff. Philip has written about this year’s show at his personal blog:

Lightning Strikes Again: Spring Into Science 2019

The aim of the event is to make local students feel welcome in their local university, and to spark their imaginations with a series of entertaining and interactive demonstrations. (My personal favourite part is the expectant hush when the lights go down, followed by the delighted roars when the Tesla coil starts making music with lightning.) We’ve run the event in 2017 and 2018, and planning is already underway for 2020…
