Month of the Mind – Upcoming Events

During May, the People and Culture team will be running the second annual Month of the Mind.

We are excited to work with Rough Trade again this year to deliver a second In Your Head event after its success during our Disability December events programme last year. The event will take place on Tuesday 9 May from 7pm and will focus on creative expression of lived experience of mental health, featuring performers from across the East Midlands. This event is free to attend and there is no need to book.

On Friday 12 May, we host Dr Margaret Glenn, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Clinical Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counselling at West Virginia University. Margaret will be talking about bibliotherapy and her research into how using reading and literature can help to manage long-term mental health conditions. Join us for this intimate lunchtime session at 12 – 1.30pm on actively supporting long-term mental health. Lunch will be provided. You can book your place here.

The University of Nottingham has also joined up with Broadway Cinema to put on a screening of Inside Out on Sunday 21 May at 10am. Inside Out tells the story of a 11- year-old girl Riley who moves to a different part of America with her family. Inside Riley’s mind, her five emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust – are trying to make sense of the change of life events that have been thrust upon her. Inside Out takes a thoughtful and poignant look at emotions and mental wellbeing. Free for all – bring your families. You can book your place here.
