Student Photography Competition with Nottingham In Bloom!

The Summer round of the Nottingham In Bloom Student Photography Competition is now open for entries.  Caroline Elmhirst and Julie Walker have written a guest blog to describe the Nottingham In Bloom campaign and to officially open the competition for Summer term entries.

The Nottingham in Bloom campaign is a city-wide partnership led by Nottingham City Council involving residents, businesses, students, schools, community groups and a wide range of volunteers.  Together we work hard to produce horticultural excellence and to enhance the local landscape, the environment and the character of Nottingham.

Nottingham has 22 Green Flag parks and has been crowned East Midlands in Bloom ‘Best Large City’ 22 times.  Our award-winning city prides itself on the innovative horticultural displays in the parks and on the traffic islands.  Have a look round for some of them next time you are in the city, we hope you will be impressed.

Each year we run projects specifically aimed at interacting with students and we really enjoy getting creative input from the city’s large student population.

Student Photography Competition

This year we launched a Student Photography Competition to find out which green spaces catch your eye whilst you are living in Nottingham.  We are asking students to photograph our vibrant, green and colourful city to be in with a chance of winning a £50 voucher.  We’d like to see pictures of campus, parks, gardens, flowers, trees or nature.

We ran the first two rounds of the competition in the Autumn and Spring terms, and received some beautiful entries, which we hope will inspire you to enter.  Here are the previous winning photographs, both capturing a different University of Nottingham campus location looking at its very best:

Summer Competition

The Summer competition is now open for entries and will close on Friday 20th May.  If you would like to enter please send your entries to bloom@nottinghamcity.gov.uk  There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.

We are very excited to announce that we have secured an exhibition space at The Place to Eat at John Lewis Nottingham, in the Victoria Centre.  The winning entries and some of the best runner-up pictures will be displayed during June and July so you may be in with a chance of seeing your photograph on public display!
