Puppy power eases exam stress
Long queues gathered outside Portland Building today as students sought a little respite from the stress of exams. The attraction – the chance to de-stress with the aid of a little pet therapy.
Twenty one young guide dogs descended on The University of Nottingham today to help students cope with exam stress. The Law Society’s Wellness Week hosted the pet therapy sessions with the aid of charity Guide Dogs.
Nine puppies at a time took part in the ‘puppy room’ sessions. The puppies involved in the event also benefitted by gaining vital socialisation skills to help them on their way to become guide dogs.
The University aimed to raise £2,500 from the event so that they can name a guide dog puppy. But the response was so great the fund raising is likely to go way beyond that. The money also goes towards covering the cost of breeding as well as the puppy’s early years training, vet costs and food.
The Puppy Room was organised alongside the Law Society’s Wellness Week, which aimed to promote wellbeing amongst the students, encourage them to focus their mind and to take beneficial time out of studies. Moreover, the week placed an emphasis on the importance of looking after themselves and their health during the exam period.
