Bringing the past to life with ancient crafts

The University of Nottingham Museum of Archaeology is getting creative this Saturday (20^th July) as it encourages visitors to get stuck into a wide variety of art and craft activities as part of the national Festival of British Archaeology.

Visitors will get the chance to contribute to one of four sections of Roman mosaic which will be placed together at the end of the day to complete the final grand piece. They will also be encouraged to get artistic and add their own designs to an Ice Age cave painting.

Not only will visitors leave their mark at the Museum, they will also have the chance to take home their handiwork. They can design and decorate a pendant with Bronze Age designs and construct a simple weave on cross sticks.

This is just one of over 1,000 events nationwide organised as part of the Festival of Archeaology which aims to bring archaeology to life over the summer. And this is not the first time the University Museum has taken part.

Clare Pickersgill, Keeper of the Museum said: “It’s great to be taking part in this fantastic Festival again and this year there will be a wide variety of activities to take part in.”

The event aims to bring out the inner archaeology in all, so get your creative hats on and head down to The University of Nottingham Museum of Archaeology at Lakeside Art Centre between 11am and 4pm to get involved in the arty, crafty, action. It is free to attend and there is no need to book.
