Strategic partnership with Lund University continues success with bespoke training
The University of Nottingham hosted 15 staff members from Lund University in Sweden for a one-week bespoke English language training programme last month. The course, designed by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Services, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) and the Office of Global Engagement, is in its second year and is part of the University of Nottinham’s strategic partnership with Lund University.
Lund staff, had the opportunity to shadow Nottingham colleagues at a similar job role, to discuss best practices and exchange views of challenges and opportunities at work. The job shadowing, a key part of the programme, was support by nearly 40 University of Nottingham colleagues and delivered across three campuses.
During the training programme, Lund staff were able to interact with each other confidently and consider ways to improve their discussion skills. They also gained practical skills and techniques on how to present effectively in English and learned ways to apply the techniques of effective communication to their work.
Lottie Norrsén, Director of External Relations at the School of Economics and Management, Lund University, commented:
I learned a lot on the English training programme, not only professional English at work when I meet international students but also new ways for developing administrative systems if you compare the two Universities. I also appreciated the job shadowing I had at The Ingenuity Lab, with special thanks to Janet Wallace, Terri Holloway and Craig Raymond Butterworth. The good discussions we had on promoting and supporting entrepreneurial students at Lund and Nottingham could help develop students’ business ideas even further.
Debby Lin-Read, Programme Manager from CPD Services, commented:
It was a great pleasure to host colleagues from Lund University again this year and I saw this as an opportunity for staff to build a strong network with each other. They all seemed a lot more confident speaking and presenting in English. The programme also provided them with valuable sector knowledge which will have a beneficial impact on their roles at Lund University.
