University builds links with Japanese universities
The University of Nottingham welcomed a delegation from nine Japanese universities as part of a British Council initiative to promote international collaboration.
The visit was designed to develop global partnerships and to showcase Nottingham’s excellence in internationalisation and mobilty. The schedule included discussions on corporate international strategy, international research collaborations and the development of overseas partners. Professor Sarah Sharples, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion delivered an engaging session on the range and importance of EDI activities taking place across the University.
The visit was part of an ongoing programme of engagement with Japan. The university is a member of the Japan-UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives – a partnership between 12 universities in the UK and Japan aiming to further knowledge exchange and research collaboration between institutions and individuals.
Dr Richard Masterman, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research Strategy and Performance, said: “We are delighted to be one of only four UK universities this Japanese delegation is visiting. We had had worthwhile discussions and look forward to increasing our student and research links with Japanese universities and learning from each other. We thank the British Council for organising this mission.”
The delegation included representatives from Hokkaido University, Nagoya University, Keio University, Tsukuba University and the Japan Association of National Universitiies. A reciprocal visit is planned for later in the year to build on the discussions and collaborations initiated in Nottingham.
