International accreditation for talent development with China
The University of Nottingham has been accredited as an official training partner by the Chinese government. The agreement, with China’s State Administration for Foreign Expert Affairs (SAFEA), enables the University to provide expertise and training programmes to technical and managerial professionals in China.
The University is one of the first higher education institutes in the UK to be granted the status this year. The five year agreement, signed on 14 April 2018 in Shenzen, China, builds on our excellent track records in research and teaching collaborations with China.
SAFEA is responsible for certifying foreign experts to work in the Chinese mainland and organises overseas training for Chinese professionals.
As an official Overseas Training Collaborative Organisation, the University will provide training across its wide range of expertise, including the fields of new materials, advanced manufacturing, geospatial, big data, creative industries, entrepreneurship and healthcare.
Professor Lu Ming, Deputy Director of SAFEA and Party Committee Member of Ministry of Science and Technology, said: “China has always been a big learning country, and the problems that other countries faced in the past is what our country is facing now. The experience gained through international training can help our cadres, technical and managerial professionals to make creative thinking, create originality and reduce the cost of economic and social development in China.
However, making China the 2nd largest economy in the world is not our ultimate goal. The balance between supply and demand, and the details of social management are where we want to learn from foreign partners.”
The accreditation builds upon the University of Nottingham’s extensive range of training programmes, collaborating with global companies including Airbus, Boeing and Unilever.
Upon receiving the status, Professor Nick Miles, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement said: “It’s exciting news for university. As the very first British university to open a China campus, we always commit to support the talent development of the country. Today, China has set up a large number of innovation strategies for economic and social development, such as ‘Made in China 2025’. We are well positioned to help the country to achieve this plan with training and innovative research collaborations.”
