New and on trial resources from Adam Matthew

Adam Matthew provide digital content for the humanities and social sciences. We already have access to Mass Observation Online, London Low Life, Victorian Popular Culture and Eighteenth Century Journals. To that list we can now add Migration to New Worlds, a collection of materials on the ‘Century of Immigration’, now freely available thanks to a collaboration between Jisc and Adam Matthew.

Over the next four weeks, you can take advantage of trial access to two resources from Adam Matthew.

Empire Online explores colonial history, politics, culture and society. With material selected from over 50 international archives, it spans the 16^th to 21^st centuries. It is organised around five thematically based sections:

• Section I: Cultural Contacts, 1492-1969
• Section II: Empire Writing & the Literature of Empire
• Section III: The Visible Empire
• Section IV: Religion & Empire
• Section V: Race, Class, Colonialism, Imperialism

The Grand Tour explores the relationship between Britain and Europe from c.1550 to 1850, exploring the Anglo-European response to continental travel for pleasure, business and diplomacy. It includes the travel writings and works of some of Britain’s greatest artists, writers and thinkers, revealing how interaction with European culture shaped their creative and intellectual sensibilities. Topics covered include:

• European political and religious life
• British diplomacy
• Material culture, taste and collecting
• Everyday life
• Life at court
• Continental social customs
