Ingenuity18: Lookback on 2017
“Let us make our future now, and let us make our dreams tomorrow’s reality” – Malala Yousafzai
2017 has been an incredible year for The Ingenuity Lab and our members. We had another successful Ingenuity Competition in February with Ingenuity17, piloted our popular #ILRoundtable workshops led by industry professionals and we’ve seen an increase in new members every week, bringing our number of active lab businesses up to almost 200.
As 2017 draws to a close, we want to take the opportunity to highlight and celebrate some of the achievements lab members have had. Below are some of their stories to round off a great 2017 and to kick off what is bound to be an amazing 2018.
YOOP
Dr Mattia Fosci and his team recently launched their new app, Yoop, during his event ‘The Age of Fake: Can Young People Trust the Media?’ back in November. His launch event attracted a guestlist of over 200 students, and he was later featured on BBC radio Nottingham discussing all things fake news and his ground-breaking app which starts with the beautiful idea that people are the media, and we can achieve a democracy of information. The Yoop app will be available to download exclusively to University of Nottingham staff, students and alumni in the very near future, so watch this space!
Follow Yoop on twitter for exclusive announcements.

Kohl Kreatives
Ingenuity17 Alumna, Trishna Daswaney, is one of our next-stage Lab members. After working incredibly hard for over six years on her business concept, 2017 has been a fantastic year for Kohl Kreatives, and she has taken the beauty industry by storm. From being stocked in Boots and work with QVC and other international retailers, to her charity pop-up at Boxpark, and winning the Nottingham Post’s Women in Business Award, she has gone from strength to strength as an entrepreneur. Her commercial success has enabled the charity at the heart of the brand, Kohl Kares, to reach over 1,000 cancer care patients and transitioning transgender teenages – which is testament to her commitment to the social value of her business.

China Britain Football Association
China Britain Football Club (CBFC) have had a great launch year. Although they only set up in February, within 6 months the team won the Asia Business Prize and the Paragon Law Prize at Ingenuity17 and managed to take three Nottingham Forest FC coaches to China to run a community programmes and establish international links. 2018 will definitely be a year of bigger things as they look into developing a more sustainable model and building a stronger relationship with China.
