Creating beauty and innovation: Kohl Kreatives
In the Ingenuity Lab, no day is the same and every member has a different story and requirements. As a group, we support each other, collaborate and ensure we have as much fun along the day; creating a melting pot of ideas! Each week, we will introduce one of our exemplary members and their business to you!
This week we caught up with Trishna Daswaney to hear about her journey with Kohl Kreatives.
Age: 24
Nationality: American
Company name:
Kohl Kreatives
What did you study at the University of Nottingham?
BSc in Management
What made you want to be an entrepreneur?
I was always inspired by my Father’s entrepreneurial spirit. I have put so much energy into making my business idea work and don’t want to let all that hard work go to waste!
What is your business concept?
I set up Kohl Kreatives as a non-profit organisation dealing with hair and make-up. Along with commercial jobs, short course tutorials and a product line of makeup brushes, we also aim to help men and women with physical disfigurements recreate features through cosmetics. Our clients include men and women going through chemotherapy and are losing eyelashes and eyebrows and veterans with physical injuries and scarring which they want help concealing and correcting.
What stage are you currently at in setting up your company/business?
I have just started pursuing this full time. We are currently rebranding our website and logo to make it softer and more inviting. We’ve also got a larger range of more dynamic products in the pipeline – so keep an eye out for those!
I think we really need to up our marketing game to help build an awareness of Kohl Kreatives in as short a time as possible, and hopefully expand into the London market with this.
The biggest cost for the company right now is product purchasing for charity events, which works out around £80 per person. We’re currently looking into collaborations with a cosmetic company to sponsor these events.
We’re also in the process of affiliating with the locally based Maggie’s Centre.
What challenges have you faced during the process?
I face challenges everyday! Minor things such as delays in deliveries and not being able to get in touch with the right people when I’m organising events can be so frustrating – but everything is a learning curve. I also need to be strict with my time management and remember to switch off from work every now and then.
How has being an Ingenuity Lab member helped you?
It’s always good to seek reassurance from the team at the Lab, and have them push me every now and then to make sure I stay on track. I really appreciate their guidance and believe that continuous learning and growth is something that will benefit the company, and myself, in the long run. As well as this, the facilities at the lab allow me to host regular events – something which is incredibly useful for my business!
What are your goals for this year?
I really want to grow the Marketing side of the business, and with this hopefully raise awareness of the brand in London over the next few months.
By the end of the year, I’m hoping that my monthly routines and schedules have some consistency, so that I can continue to steadily grow Kohl Kreatives.
