Holly Smith attends the Prescribing and Research in Medicines Management (PRIMM) Conference
In January this year, Holly Smith, a fourth year MPharm student attended the 27th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Prescribing and Research in Medicines Management (PRIMM) organisation in London.
The abstract from an audit she carried out within the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in August 2016 was accepted for a poster presentation at the event. The audit was based on non-adherence to probiotic therapy, which is used to reduce the risk of C. difficile infections in patients taking high-risk antibiotics, and involved interviewing patients to consider reasons for lack of adherence and possible strategies for improvement.
Based on the results, the Trust are designing a patient information leaflet on the purpose and importance of taking prescribed probiotic therapy.
The main topic of the conference was de-prescribing and included talks on the management of polypharmacy from both a consultant pharmacist and GP.
