Welcome to the second of this year’s T&L newsletters. We hope the teaching semester has got off to a good start for you. We have various upcoming events and initiatives to introduce to you here and are also delighted to introduce some new members of the team.
Looking forward to seeing you at future T&L showcases and to receiving your contributions on T&L related matters for the UNNC 2020 planning process.

UNNC Teaching and Learning Development Grant 2014/15
The Small Teaching and Learning Grant Scheme still invites proposals that support the enhancement of teaching and learning at UNNC. Priority will be given in 2014/15 to projects with an emphasis on technology-enabled Learning.
Applications are invited from any full-time member of staff engaged in teaching and learning activities at UNNC. Proposals submitted under this scheme may request up to RMB 50,000 from the Teaching & Learning fund. Projects will normally run for twelve months and successful applicants will be asked to share the outcomes and ideas from their project with colleagues through dissemination workshops and events.
The application form and a list of current projects from 2013/14 funding cycle are available here: UNNC Small T&L Development Grant. If you would like to make an application the deadline is 5.00pm Monday 20 October 2014.

Hi, my name is Daniel DAI. During the last four years since I joined UNNC, I had worked as IT Support Team Leader in IT Services. From the beginning of this October, I started taking this new role as Learning Technology Consultant in Teaching and Learning Enhancement Office (TLEO). By working closely with a wide range of colleagues in three campuses, I am very keen to deliver learning technologies and platforms (e.g. MOOCs & NOOCs) at UNNC. I am looking forward to meet as many academic staff and students as possible to explore how I could help to deliver the very best technology-enabled learning over the months ahead. |

Peer Observation College
Peer Observation College (POC) is a University-wide scheme which will aim to provide professional, independent and consistent teaching observation for colleagues by colleagues, to share good practice in Teaching and Learning across UNNC and with our fellow UoN campuses and to create a supportive space focused on personal and professional development. The intention is to increase staff awareness of wide range of teaching methods used at the University and to encourage participants to reflect on the effectiveness of their teaching and share teaching and learning experiences with other colleagues.
The application process and trainings are planned to be delivered in the first semester with a view to full implementation of the College in the second semester. For expressions of interest to join the POC, please email teaching.learning@nottingham.edu.cn by 31 October 2014.
Recent updates on MOOCs/NOOCs
There are in total four Nottingham Open Online Courses (NOOCs) have been available in Oct 2014. Two NOOCs have been open to all students and staff of the University of Nottingham who are interested in sustainability, Sustainable and Responsible Business and Perspectives on Sustainability. Both can be used to earn credits towards the Nottingham Advantage Award.
The third NOOCs this autumn is Your University Journey, which started on Wednesday 15th October. It is an online course aiming at first year students to help with the transition to university study. It will give all new students an insight into the amazing research that goes on here and help them get used to using things like library resources and reading lists.
A new NOOC, The Changing University: Inside Nottingham starting from Monday 13 October, is designed especially for staff working in professional services across the University, in Malaysia, China and the UK. It covers the ways in which the University works and how different parts of the professional services operate. During the four week course it is expected to explore what it means to work at a leading global university and how gaining a better understanding of professional behaviours can help with developing careers.
A week-long training course, MOOC Facilitation (NAA and Learning Technology), took place between September 29th and October 3rd for all colleagues with interests in online learning, and especially in facilitation for NOOCs and MOOCs. There were readings and forums to engage with each day and three synchronous online sessions. If you are interested in this course but missed the liver course, please feel free to enrol it and find all materials including live recordings.
Quality Manual Updates
The Quality Manual acts as a source of information for policies and procedures which support the University in its aim to assure the quality of its learning, teaching and supervision.
