MayFest!
Now I know you’re probably only reading this because you’ve exhausted all other forms of procrastination and you’re desperately trying to think of things you ‘need’ to do/check/read that are unrelated to whatever topic you are currently supposed to be revising (or you’re one of those very lucky people with no exams and you just have nothing better to do) so I’ll make you a deal; I’ll tell you to go back to your work at the end of this and I’ll go back to mine 🙂
Despite probably not having done as much work as I should have done with regards to reading back over lectures I’ve spent the last week getting thoroughly stuck into it so I decided I needed a break over the weekend. MayFest was the perfect excuse; on our own doorstep and loosely educational and therefore related to my revision. I did learn something remotely zoology related (Sheep can remember up to 50 faces) and also made a bracelet of the DNA bases I would need in order to write my name in amino acids… with a stop and start codon because I’m just that cool. I think I was trying to compensate for the fact that due to there not being a whole alphabet of amino acids (pretty sure there’s 2o, correct me if I’m wrong) my name is now Reecca.
Completely unrelated to biology in any way or form (and believe me, I tried to think of a link) we tried out some rather eclectic bikes which weren’t as easy to ride as first though, especially when people were using the other ones at the same time in a relatively enclosed space.
We tried our hands at arts and crafts before being waylaid in the corridor and ending up taking part in a Greek dance in a room full of children no older than about eight. I’d like to say I was good at it but the combination of trying to count in Greek (a language I’ve never even tried to learn before) and excessive repetitive leg kicking/flicking I think the kids put me to shame.
On Sunday I helped out at a Rotary Hog Roast in Wollaton. I’d like to tell myself I was there to help out the cadets, maybe that it was too sunny not to be inside, I’d ever fall back on the student excuse of, the food was free. But ultimately, if I’m being completely honest with myself I was probably just hiding from my revision.
So here draws the end of my blog and as promised, I’m going to try get some more work done, (group study sessions ftw!) and I’m telling you to go do yours. Don’t let it all be work though, one of the best ways of not getting too stressed out/losing your sanity during exams is to keep doing the things you love!
