10 minute breaks for when you have too much work to do
Yesterday on a revision break* I walked around campus with my flatmate and spent far too long posing for photos with the NOTTINGHAM sign and discovering hidden gardens. Whilst it was such a well-needed break from the stress of revision, it got me thinking that I need to find some shorter revision breaks, that don’t use up a whole day of study time. So here are some of my ideas:
Boring but productive – good for when you feel guilty about taking a break/mess is taking over your life
- Clear your desk
- Do the mountain of washing up that you’ve been avoiding for two days (then leave the drying up for an extra 6 hours)
- Do a load of laundry
Healthy – good for when you haven’t moved all day
- Go for a walk, round one of the dozens of hidden gardens on campus or maybe just to the shop to buy a snack
- Do some stretches
- Prepare a plate of fruit
Unleash your inner child – because revision can be dull
- Colouring in
- Go to an outdoor gym or park and mess around for a while
- Have a picnic lunch, extra points if you bring a ball or Frisbee
Realistic but less good for you – what we are all likely to do, when one of the other suggestions would be more beneficial
- Plan to watch a short video on Netflix or YouTube and get sucked in for at least half an hour
- Scroll through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter…
- Have a nap
Good luck in your exams!
*Does it count as a break if I hadn’t started working at that point? Oops.
