You can sleep when you’re dead
Hellooooo there,
I hope everyone is having an eggcellent easter holiday! Mine is going brilliantly so far, although I did experience a loss yesterday … R.I.P. Chocolate bunny and duck. Quack.
Excuse me if I’m sounding odd or my yokes aren’t as funny as I think they are … I’m blaming it on my sleep deprivation. While its awesome to be home for the holidays and recharge, a lot of students use it as an opportunity to get some part time work in order to replenish those abused overdrafts. I have been lucky enough to get some work at my local Sainsburys store where I used to work before I came to Uni.
I work as an online shopper. No not the dream job you’re thinking of. It involves completing the shopping in store for the customers who order their groceries online. As the groceries have to be delivered on the day, the shopping must be done early in the morning. Therefore, for the last week I have been working 5am until 1pm. Batteries = uncharged. It’s been exhausting! And as I am so used to going to bed pretty late at Uni, it means I can’t sleep until around 11pm anyway, thus I am constantly tired. However, I can’t complain too much as I am earning dollar.
Nevertheless, this week got me thinking about sleep and how much we need it. If you are anything like my housemates you appreciate a good ten hour sleep on a regular basis. Sometimes there’s nothing better than climbing into your comfy, warm bed and knowing you don’t have to get up for anything the next day.
On the other hand, just think about all that time that is slipping away! Imagine what you could do if you didn’t need to sleep; you would have so much more time to accomplish all the things you claim to never have time for. You could get all your uni work done, have time to cook delicious home made meals, go out on the town and then repeat it all again without ever having to stop.
Sleep is great and I definitely cannot function without it. However, given the choice I would like the ability to survive without it so that I could enjoy more of what life has to offer. After all, you can sleep when you’re dead. Happy Easter!
