Welcome to Living In The Community
The new term is here and it isn’t just our campuses which are buzzing with the return of our students. Lots of you are now living in the local communities of Nottingham – whether it’s Lenton, Dunkirk, Radford, Beeston or elsewhere. As members of these communities, we hope you’re going to have a fantastic year living off campus, and we’ve pulled together some handy tips and advice to help things get off to a great start.
Love Your Community
One of the best things about living off campus is the opportunity to get to be part of a diverse community made up of a mixture of your fellow students and permanent residents. It’s important to remember that your neighbours may well have very different lifestyles to you – they could have young children, or be elderly, or they could be students working shifts as part of a placement.
Our top tip for getting things off on the right foot? Get together with your neighbours for a cup of tea and get to know each other!
Keep It Clean
It’s great to be able to feel proud of where you live, and being responsible with your waste will mean everyone can enjoy the environment they live in. Find out when your bins are collected and what needs to go in each bin and make sure you bring your bins in after collections have taken place. Not only do they make the street look messy, but wheelie bins are an obstacle for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs.
If you live in Nottingham City, you can check your bin collection days here, and if you live in Beeston, you can check them here.
Cycle Safe
If you’re planning to cycle to campus, try to use cycle routes wherever possible. It’s important to remember that it is illegal to cycle on the pavement, and you could be fined if caught doing so. If you’re nervous about cycling on the road, you can get in touch with Ridewise for cycling courses and advice.
