Love Your Stuff – And Keep It
Do you live in Lenton or Dunkirk? If so, you may well have opened your door to find one of our student ambassadors, bedecked in a bright yellow vest, on your doorstep last week. Joined by members of the police family – beat officers and Police Community Support Officers from Canning Circus Police Station – our ambassadors were out in the cold and rain to give students living off campus some top tips to avoid becoming victims of crime.
The Love Your Stuff campaign has been run by the University for several years and is just one example of the ways in which the University of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Police work together on crime prevention matters.
Did you know that around one in three burglaries is as a result of a door or window being left unlocked? Don’t make it easy for burglars – follow this simple advice and keep your stuff safe:
- Always close and lock your doors and windows when you leave a room, even if you’re only popping to the kitchen or bathroom
- Check that your doors and windows are locked when you go to bed at night, or if you’re going out
- Register your valuables (mobile phone, laptop, tablet etc) on the Immobilise database.
You can find more advice on crime prevention in the Off Campus Student Affairs section of the University website, or follow us on Twitter for regular updates, hints and tips on living in the community.
