Take a break with Libraries
When revising and studying for exams, it’s really important to take regular breaks and look after your wellbeing.
Whilst our libraries are open 24/7 during the revision and exam period to help you to study on your schedule, Libraries and the University offer a range of services to help you manage your time with care.
Room to Study
Look out for our Room to Study flyers available in all libraries which let you take regular 30 minute breaks without losing your study place.
Simply write the time you are taking a break on the back of the flyer and we’ll save your space for up to 30 minutes. Don’t forget to take your valuables with you.
If you’re working in a quiet or silent zone and you’re struggling to focus because of other library users, look out for our Text Noise posters around libraries.
Simply text ‘Noise’ and your location to the stated number and a member of staff will remind others that it is a quiet zone.
Don’t forget that if the libraries are busy and you can’t find a study spot, the Study Anywhere spaces can help.
Library Games Zones
Press pause on your studies and play away your stress with our drop-in Library Games Zones.
During exams, you’ll find a range of games and activities in our libraries that can be played individually, with a friend or in small groups.
Each library has a different collection, including:
– Hirameki notecards and placemats – draw what you see, where doodling and imagination come together. Great for flashes of inspiration!
– Bletchley Park brain boosting puzzles
– Scrabble and Draw a Blank games
– Lego blocks
– Origami resources
The games and activities can be used by anyone, all we ask is that you are mindful of others studying around you and that they aren’t taken out of the library.
We have leisure reading collections in our Greenfield Medical, James Cameron-Gifford and George Green libraries.
Our varied collection features a range of titles including science fiction, popular science and prize-listed books as well as self-help and wellness titles.
Exam and study support
There is a wide-range of services available for support during the exam period, including:
– Exam Toolkit – download the Healthy U guide for advice on managing assessments and your wellbeing
– Study Support Assistants – book an appointment for support with your studies and stress
– Workshops and groups – support from the Counselling Service
