UoN Libraries Christmas opening and changes to borrowing services
The countdown to Christmas in the University of Nottingham Libraries begins! We’ve got news about our extra opening between Christmas and New Year and how we’ve tailored some of our borrowing services to help everyone to get fair access to books over the Christmas Vacation.
Christmas opening arrangements
The end of the first term falls on Friday 15 December which signals the end of 24/7 for Hallward and Greenfield Medical Libraries. We switch over into Vacation opening times on Saturday 16 December which means that there are slightly different opening times for most of our libraries.
The University has a closed period over Christmas and New Year but most of our libraries will stay open for some of this time, for example we will continue to be open until Christmas Eve 24 December but will shut slightly earlier than usual at 2.45pm. We then close until 3 January apart from the following days:
- 27, 28 and 29th December – Djanogly LRC, George Green, Greenfield Medical, Hallward and James Cameron-Gifford Libraries will open between 9am and 5pm
- 28 and 29th December – Business Library will open between 9am and 5pm
If you would like somewhere to study over the Christmas and New Year periods then the 24/7 computer rooms will still be open, make sure you bring your University Card for access.
Changes to book borrowing services for Christmas and the New Year
Reservations suspended on Ordinary Loan books
After 1 December all books on loan will not be requested back until 5 January 2018. This means that any reservations in the system will not be activated between now and 5 January, unless books are returned by borrowers because they are no longer required.
To help out fellow students, why not have a look at your library account and return any book you don’t need. This will help us to keep the flow of library books going.
Short Loan available to borrow for a longer
If you would like to borrow Short Loan books over the Christmas period, we are offering an extended loan period from 11am on Friday 22 December 2017 until 11am on Wednesday 3 January 2018. Unfortunately we cannot offer a renewal service on 3 January, the books will need to be returned in person.
All online books and journals will remain available via NUsearch and can be used on and off campus. It’s worthwhile checking if we have an ebook version of our print collections, wherever possible we try to offer the choice of both.
If you have any questions about the Christmas arrangements or would like support in navigating the library services, staff in libraries are on hand to help. Alternatively, the Library Helpline is a way of getting in touch with us without visiting a library.
