Cultivating and Learning

The latest episode of The Things that Made Us take a look at what it means to grow, specifically what it means to have access to a plot of land to cultivate. We look at allotment gardens. Now, this might not seem like a fascinating area of discussion, but allotments perfectly present issues of politics, culture, society and economics for analysis.

In the podcast, we discuss why the right to land has been a major driving force in politics. We also assess why it means more to us now considering our economic and environmental problems. Finally, we discuss how the patchwork quilts of allotment gardens represent culture, habit and values of a local community. All the things we learn down at the allotment!
