KTP Associate Q&A spotlight

By Pischanath (Ice) Ariyapolkanoksin, KTP Associate

Tell us a bit about you

I’m originally from Thailand and have almost a decade of experience in Supply Chain and Logistics management within the automotive sector. I moved to the UK in 2021 to pursue my master’s degree at the University of Sheffield and have since been seeking multicultural work experiences to broaden my perspective and grow both personally and professionally. I’m passionate about continuous learning, collaborating across cultures, and making a meaningful impact wherever I go.

Globally-minded, problem-solver, and go-getter – three words that best define me.

Why did you choose to become a KTP Associate?

I chose to become a KTP Associate because I love building things from scratch and turning ideas into reality. This role allows me to work on real-world problems while learning from both industry leaders and academics. It’s the perfect balance of practical innovation and theoretical insights, giving me the chance to grow and make a tangible impact in both worlds.

Tell us about the role

I work at Kingsmill Industries UK, a leading manufacturer of lightning protection products. The company specialises in providing high-quality solutions to protect electrical systems, and it’s known for its innovation and commitment to safety in the industry.

As a KTP Associate, I focus on driving strategic change to help the company transition from a small to medium-sized enterprise, with an emphasis on optimising operations and supply chain management. I also work on organisational structure and design management systems and mechanisms. Additionally, I lead training and development programmes to empower employees, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence for their future and the company’s growth.

What has been the most memorable part of your KTP experience?

The most memorable part has been the opportunity to work closely with the managing director and senior investor. This experience has taught me valuable lessons in business strategy, including key decision-making at the strategic level, rather than just the tactical. I’ve gained a new perspective on how to prioritise long-term, mid-term, and short-term goals with limited resources, ensuring that each decision aligns with the company’s overall vision.

How has the KTP experience benefitted you?

It has helped me recognise my weaknesses and areas for improvement. It has provided valuable insights into where I need to focus my efforts to grow professionally, and has motivated me to actively work on enhancing these areas to become more successful in the future.

How did you find the application process?

I found the application process to be thorough and engaging. The initial interview round was short and precise, focusing on my skills and experience. The second round was a case study, allowing me to demonstrate my problem-solving abilities and how I approach real-world challenges. Overall, it was a great opportunity to showcase my fit for the role.

Would you recommend becoming a KTP Associate? if so, why?

Yes, definitely. It’s the best opportunity to be involved in the best of both worlds –  working closely with real-world business leaders while also collaborating with an academic team. It’s an exciting chance to gain practical experience and learn from experts in both areas.
