‘Model’ Confucius Institute status
It was a great end to 2015 with the awarding of ‘Model’ status to Nottingham Confucius Institute at the 10th Confucius Institute Conference in Shanghai. The award was presented by Mme LIU Yandong, Vice Premier of China and Chairwoman of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, to Professor Chris Rudd, Chair of Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI). The presentation of the award was witnessed by NCI Board members, including myself. The ‘Model’ status has only been awarded to 10 out of the 500 Confucius Institutes globally.
The Nottingham Confucius Institute started in 2007 in partnership with Fudan University and is located at the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus. The NCI does great work promoting Chinese language and culture to schools and to companies wishing to trade with China. It is also home to a vibrant community of teachers passionate about their subject. This week NCI was delighted to take part in the Minster School Languages Day, teaching Year 8 students Mandarin and calligraphy along with traditional Chinese paper cutting.
A great day.
