Who has been crowned this year’s Award Module of the Year 2014-2015?
We are delighted to announce that the ‘Boots Commercial Enterprise’ module has been awarded the title of Nottingham Advantage Award Module of the Year!
The Boots Commercial Enterprise module was delivered to our students for the first time throughout 2014-15, with the support of the Careers and Employability Service.
The module offers a snapshot of the three core commercial functions at Boots: Buying, Brand and Marketing. It gave students a great opportunity to identify a market gap and develop a new sustainable and ethical brand. The module included a series of interactive workshop days, in which students were introduced to Boots, and got to grips with the difference between the business’ core functions. Students had to collaborate in groups to develop a product concept, and pitch this to module convenors, their student peers and Boots senior management.
This has been a popular module from the start, evident from the high number of applications we received from students. The student nominations for module of the year demonstrated a range of benefits as the result of participating in the module; communication, teamwork, leadership, developing confidence in public speaking, building professionalism and career planning. Students highlighted how the module had provided a rewarding experience and additional exposure outside of their degree, enabling them to put theory in to practice. The opportunity to visit Boots HQ in Nottingham was also invaluable:
“It was a great experience presenting to senior managers, something I have never had the opportunity to do before. It was also great to be able to work in a team with other students, use my strengths and network with current Boots employers”.
Haidar Darwesh, Thomas Parker and Michael Mclundie, our Boots colleagues and module convenors, explain where their passion for the module comes from:
“As alumni we wanted to continue the historic affiliation between the university and Boots. We also wanted to give something back to the university that we love and to give students an authentic experience of the commercial world. Finally, we wanted to engage students with Boots and the career opportunities available to everyone regardless of their degree”.
This module has provided an excellent opportunity for students to get an insight to the world of work and gain an understanding of the core commercial functions. We are delighted to continue to work alongside the globally renowned, locally based brand Boots in order to offer fantastic development opportunities for students. We would like to congratulate our Boots colleagues on winning the 2015 Nottingham Advantage Award Module of the Year and look forward to presenting them with their certificate at the annual Celebration Event on Tuesday 9 June 2015.
