Would you like to earn recognition for your Students Union activity?
The Nottingham Advantage Award has teamed up with the Students Union to enable you to gain credits for your volunteering activities with the SU Volunteering module. Whether you are volunteering with the Student Volunteer Centre or hold a position of responsibility with a society, sports club or student-run service, then this is a great opportunity for you!
The SU offer a number of modules such as Assertiveness, Communication and Project Management, of which you need to take three, designed to help you make the most out of your volunteering activity. This is an ideal chance to help you develop valuable skills and experience that employers are looking for while giving something back to the local community or your SU. Did you know, “73% of employers would rather employ someone with voluntary experience, than someone without” (Timebank, 2009)
There is a wide range of volunteering opportunities through the Student Volunteer Centre from ongoing projects such as the Carrington Kids Club, The Lenton Centre and Tag Rugby. There is also the opportunity to run your own student-led project if you have a great volunteering idea.
‘Volunteering offers you the opportunity to try out different careers to see which field you would like to work in, whilst gaining experience of working for real organisations and working towards a business/charity’s aims’. Bridget Litchfield – SVC Manager. For further information about volunteering opportunities email volunteering@nottingham.ac.uk
To find out more about this module email emma.maraio@nottingham.ac.uk you will need to email Nottingham-advantage-award@nottingham.ac.uk once you have been accepted on to the module.
