How to Read Your Boss – join us for 27 Oct!

Would you like to read your boss better and enhance your own workplace communication at the same time?

There’s still time to sign up for ‘How to Read Your Boss’, the University of Nottingham’s next MOOC, starting on 27th October on FutureLearn.

Dr. Louise Mullany from the School of English has devised this two-week course to introduce linguistic techniques to enhance communication in businesses and organisations, wherever you are based in the world.

Course participants are introduced to an innovative approach known as the ‘Linguistic Profiling’ Model. This technique has been successfully used in workplace communication research, business consultancy and CPD training.

The majority of choices that we make in our workplace communication on a day-to-day basis take place below the level of our conscious awareness. The Linguistic Profiling Model introduces techniques to help raise awareness of how workplace communication works. Participants will learn how to read their bosses more effectively, as well as analysing themselves and other colleagues too.

The profiling model includes a set of Linguistic Toolkits. These are designed to help participants produce quick and effective analyses of communication in their own workplace.

How to Read Your Boss is unique as it is based upon the analysis of authentic, business conversations that have actually taken place. It is underpinned by extensive research into real-life business communication and it provides a suite of practical examples of how people really communicate at work. It is designed to help participants enrich the communication strategies that they use to enhance their workplace presence and impact.
