Advent calendar #16: Tips on being a student in a MOOC

Today, Heather Moorhouse, one of the MOOC facilitators, offers her tips on getting the most out of your student experience on a MOOC (or NOOC):

The most advantageous thing about being a MOOC student is the fact that this learning experience is actually whatever you the participant want it to be. You have the flexibility to spend an hour here or there, or days, reading in and around the subject materials.

The best advice I could give is to enjoy it as much as possible – if something interests you then get stuck in. Don’t feel restricted to just undertaking MOOC tasks – use what’s available to you to find out more. But by the same token taking part in discussions and the NOOC weekly tasks is invaluable to yourself by cementing your thoughts and opinions and similar with your peers through imparting your new found wisdom and helping spark interesting discussions. So, to summarise, get involved and enjoy!

The University of Nottingham MOOC Sustainability, Society and You starts on January 6th and you can sign up now for free on the FutureLearn website.
