Global Strategy 2020 – beginning implementation

There is a lot of activity relating to Global Strategy 2020 across the University at the moment turning the vision, goals and actions we set out last year into implementation plans. Many colleagues are thinking about how we are working across the University and the initiatives we need to introduce to achieve our ambitions over the next few years and I thought it was probably about the right time to update you as to where all of this activity is heading.

All Schools and Professional Service units are currently setting out their views on how they will each contribute to achieving elements of Strategy 2020. At the same time, the Strategy 2020 theme leads are putting together detailed plans and business cases for initiatives relating to achieving excellence in education, world changing research, enhancing external engagement and embedding internationalisation. They are supported in this by colleagues in strategy planning and performance, HR, Finance and the executive project management office.

Lots of really great initiatives will be identified but we will need to prioritise and co-ordinate all this activity to ensure we are taking forward those initiatives that will benefit our students and our staff, but still leave us with the capacity to keep the show on the road! UEB will therefore review all these plans in April and we will then continue discussions with Schools and Departments on any new S2020 initiatives to enable appropriate planning and support.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the contributions you have made so far to developing Strategy 2020, to your school and department planning and development, as well as to cross-university initiatives like Project Transform.

I hope you will be able to come to one of the Vice-Chancellor’s Forums during March and early April to hear more about Strategy 2020 and engage in discussion about the University’s future development. I look forward to seeing you there.
