Moodle activities to promote student engagement in a Computing Professional Ethics Module

Covering learning outcomes about the legal, ethical, professional and social (LEPS) aspects of computing is not only important as part of students’ education, but also required for the accreditation of programmes of study. Computer Science students are often less enthusiastic about learning such topics than they are about learning the technical and scientific aspects of their discipline. Often, Computer Science students are of the opinion that LEPS aspects are just a matter of ‘common sense’.

In this talk, we describe some ways in which Moodle activities are used to engage students in the learning of a module that is compulsory for most Computer Science students and that covers LEPS aspects
