Contribute to HEFCE consultation on sustainable development

Two female students sitting with laptop outsideHEFCE has launched a consultation aiming to encourage dialogue within the higher education sector on what more can be done to promote sustainable development. They’re inviting comments from staff at all levels within institutions and welcome students’ views too.

The document sets out some of the ways that universities and colleges can contribute to sustainable development, and proposes an overall framework for how HEFCE will support them.

The document covers seven specific themes:

  • Supporting students
  • Education for sustainability
  • Research
  • A modern sustainable economy
  • Business operations
  • Information and analysis
  • HEFCE operations

The University will be submitting a formal response to HEFCE. If you’d like to help shape this, please email your comments to Andy Nolan, Director of Sustainability, by Monday 3 February 2014 to enable a collective response to be drafted.

The Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) has produced a summary of key points raised during a recent webinar on the HEFCE consultation, which may offer some areas for further consideration.
