Team of the Week: Netball 3rd

Congratulations to the Netball 3rd team for their 40 -27 win against the Birmingham 3rd team this Wednesday. This win reflected the whole of the Netball club’s undefeated performance this week, with the 3rd team beating top of the league Birmingham, just giving them the edge to win Team of the Week.

After previously losing 33-25 to Birmingham, it was going to be a tough match with the squad only a couple of points behind Birmingham in second place. By the end of the second quarter of the match the score was tied between Nottingham and Birmingham.

With the game continuing to be very back and forth, it took until the 3rd quarter for Nottingham to pull away in a significant lead by 7 goals, 3 of these goals being scored in the last minute of the quarter. The final quarter continued to be just as successful, with the lead increasing to 13 goals leaving the girls with a great win.

Captain Annabel Kenny commented how well the whole team played, with Georgina Eaton winning opposition player of the match and Chloe Vell winning players player. Both girls playing defense and continued to put so much pressure on Birmingham that it caused them to miss most of their shots. This excellent defensive work was supported by Lily Pearce and Emma Folkard who both play wing defense.

At the attacking end of the court Poppy Utting created many opportunities for Nottingham to score, with her great positioning in the center and the wings. In the circle Annabel and Georgia McGrath played very well together, creating lots of opportunities for the other to score. This was made easier by the excellent feeding into the circle by Sophie Dingle, Isabel Kotler and Grace Elliot.

Toward the start of the season the girls aimed to finish first in their league and get promoted, although due to an earlier loss to Birmingham and Oxford 2s, the squad are currently in second place. However, due to this win against Birmingham and only being 3 points behind, the girls are optimistic about their final two games against Northampton 1s and Oxford 2s.

Good luck for your final games!
