Team of the Week: Ladies Squash 1st

Back into the new year for the #GreenandGold, with many of our teams back playing for the first time on Wednesday and lots already starting this half of the season with a win. However, our Team of the Week this week has gone to the Ladies Squash 1st team, for smashing all their matches last weekend and coming away with a 5-0 win from every single one.

Last weekend the squad travelled down to Birmingham for the National Premier Squash League, where they would compete as one of the top four teams in the country which also included UWE, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Not only did they beat their main rivals Birmingham, but the squad placed themselves as the top seed for their upcoming cup matches.

Having a very talented squad this season with many of the players being scholars, including Coline Aumard, Hana Ramadan, Jannis Lam, Heidi Albinson and Hayley Openshaw- Blower, put the team in very good stead for a successful weekend for UoN Squash. Within the team, both Coline and Hana are also ranked in the top 40 of the world.

Captain Hayley Openshaw-Blower, commented how well every member of the team played this weekend, with a special mention to her woman of the match Heidi Albinson. Heidi is the newest player to the squad and played in a tougher final match at the end of the weekend. However, she managed to bring it back and pulled through a win, leaving the girls with clean sheet for the weekend.

An already very successful first half of the season and a great start to this half, the team hopes to continue their undefeated streak in their upcoming cup matches and ultimately reach the cup final which is held in Nottingham at Big BUCS Wednesday!

Congratulations to everyone on the squad for their amazing win and good luck for the rest of the season!
