Team of the Week: Netball 1st

Congratulations to our Netball 1st team squad for their outstanding performance this week!

Playing on Wednesday in the BUCS Netball trophy, they beat Edinburgh 2’s 60-43 and claimed the title of Team of the Week! The rival team from Edinburgh were also being top of their league in Scotland 1A, with Nottingham at the top of Midlands 1A.

Nottingham stood in good stance before the match, having comfortably won all their games so far. With strong players such as Wasps U21 Alice Coward, Nottingham started their match with a calm positive attitude, knowing they had a strong chance of winning. The girls all supported each other throughout with a great #GreenandGold spirit, which they felt was important due to how tight the game was in the first quarter.

With the game being goal for goal, Nottingham decided to make some small changes which slowly started to pay off. By half time they were in the lead, but the score line still remained very tight.

However, the girls kept their heads together and came out strong in the beginning of the second half, managing to gain an excellent lead that Edinburgh couldn’t come back to. The final score was left as an impressive 60-43. Though all the team played well, their man of the match was Becky Deo who according to captain Daisy Herd ‘made the most impossible passes work really well!’

For the rest of the season Nottingham are hoping to win their league, which would allow them to play in the premier play offs and lead to a possible promotion.

Looking toward this Wednesday, Nottingham are playing Loughborough 2’s away at Loughborough. They are confident again of another win making it their 8th consecutive win of the season. With Loughborough also only being 5th in their league, Nottingham hope to get everyone onto the court and to come out with another impressive score line!

Well done to everyone playing on the squad!
