Are you inspired by London 2012?

As the Paralympic closing ceremony brought the curtain down on a spectacular summer of sport, thoughts quickly turned to the legacy of the Games.

The impact that the Olympics and Paralympics will have on the country has long been used when justifying the cost of hosting ‘the greatest show on earth’.

Whether it was The University of Nottingham’s medal winning alumni, quadruple gold winning racer David Weir or London 2012’s golden girl Jessica Ennis, you cannot help but having been inspired.

But were their achievements enough to convince you to dust off your trainers and get involved in sport?

At the University, we are checking off the usually excuses – opportunity, cost and time – to give every student and member of staff the opportunity to get involved.

  • Nu2 Sport provides taster sessions in a number of sports throughout the year, for those that want to give sport a try, in a relaxed environment and without having to commit to sports centre or club membership.
  • Perfect for your body and mind, Any-Body Club is running weekly sessions across six sports throughout the academic year. Costing just £1 the sessions are designed to promote good mental health.
  • For disabled people or volunteers who would like to help people access sport, the Any-Buddy Scheme, pair you up with a buddy who enjoys similar sports and activities to you.
  • Students can also participate in one of 77 clubs that compete against other further education providers in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues, or more casually in our intra mural competitions.
  • For elite athletes, the University offers a sports bursary, providing financial and specialist support to help them maximise their sporting potential.

To find out more about these opportunities and more, see how you get involved in sport at Nottingham on the University website.
